Are you on a mission to improve work performance and help your team have better focus on the tasks at hand? As a leader, you have the opportunity to shape morale, boost team energy, and increase productivity at work, starting with your mindset.
A full-time job consumes a large part of your employees’ lives. While not every day will be exciting, your approach as a leader can make a significant impact.
The following statement is true of employees and employers:
You can’t hate on where you are and get to where you want to be.
It’s easy to feel frustrated when your team seems distracted. Their lack of focus can turn your energy negative if you aren’t careful.
However, it is your mission (and responsibility) to be curious, to be creative, to discover life.
When you (or your employees) are unhappy with what you do, where you work, who you are with… it can be overwhelming. It sucks the life out of you, and empties your spirit of its drive and care. This makes you want to hate it, complain about it, resist it, seek to escape it, and give half-hearted effort.
You and your team DO NOT have to be sucked into this!
In these situations, there are jewels to be discovered. Get curious about what this situation is teaching you, or asking you to learn. Take time to learn more about your team and to set goals for yourself and your business. Commit to coming out of this rut stronger than you were before it. Before you know it, you’ll be on your way to better focus and increased productivity at work.
Want some help uncovering these jewels? That’s what I’m here for.
What is this situation asking of me?
Is it asking you to be patient? Is it asking you to be bold and courageous? Is it asking you to take action? Is it asking you to get out of your comfort zone?
In terms of your workplace, take a moment to evaluate the situation.
Have your employees expressed concerns that have gone unheard?
Have they taken brave action that’s gone unnoticed?
Do they feel overwhelmed or micromanaged?
How can you improve work performance in the way you lead your office?
Self-reflection is a necessary step in creating a fulfilling work environment.
Once you’ve reflected on where you can grow, evaluate the ways your team could improve work performance. Have meaningful conversations. Offer them the opportunity to self-reflect on their work. Give them room to make mistakes and grow from them.
These conversations are not always easy, but they’re necessary.

Grow Through What You Go Through
Let your curiosity help you find the ways you need to grow through what you are going through. This is the path. As you do this, new opportunities find their way to you. Being a leader requires a lot of energy and complex thinking. Give yourself grace and the space to be in the moment as you decide where to dedicate yourself next.
If you instead run, go to the next thing without growing, then that kind of situation, I promise you, will find you again because you will unconsciously attract it into your life.
If you quit, or fire and hire a new employee without addressing root issues, you will find the problems follow you, or worse, you could have a new set of issues and end up even farther from improving focus and work performance.
We are meant to grow. Our work is supposed to challenge us. We aren’t supposed to take the easy way out. Tough times allow us to adapt and evolve into better leaders.
Pursue Emotional Freedom, Improve Work Performance
Feeling stressed? Want to increase productivity at work?
Get off the merry-go-round of stress and emotional turmoil.
The only person who can truly improve your stress at work is you. And when you’re a leader, the boss, you influence many others.
Before you fire employees who are slacking at work, try to get to the bottom of the issue. This curiosity and problem-solving mindset will help you in the long run! It’ll help you bring peace to the relationship and situation, regardless of their tenure in the position.
Whether they’re with you for another month or decade, don’t leave anything on the table. Ensure you’ve done your part to better both yourself and the employee.
