5 Tips for Improving Mental Fitness
It’s time to fine-tune your mind.
All of your life experiences are had through your mind. When you don’t implement the proper practices, it’s easy to spiral from stress. The state of your mental health determines all other characteristics of your life, your relationships, and your circumstances.
Your mind carries quite a lot of weight – it’s time to improve your mental fitness.
Fortunately, you can live with disease, disorders, and all kinds of complications while still having a beautifully vibrant life if you practice mental health strategies that set you free from the internal and external bondage of distress and dysfunction.
Your mental real estate is your most valuable asset and must be cared for properly.
Try these five actionable recommendations for quieting your mind and improving your mental fitness.
- Create Structure
- Practice Appreciation
- Get Moving
- Visualize Your Desires
- Be Consistent
If you’re in pursuit of self improvement, and desire to quiet your mind, follow these five recommendations. Keep reading for deeper insight!
1. Create Structure
The research is clear – structured routines reduces stress and improves focus. It provides predictability, which allows your mind to be in a more balanced, quieter state. It allows you to feel a sense of control and promotes healthy habit formation.
Structure facilitates your goal achievement by creating a framework that ultimately enhances your mental fitness and emotional well-being.
You feel balanced because it grounds you. It puts you back in charge of your life.
Structure a routine for the morning day around your preferred mental health strategies. If a full day structure feels overwhelming to start, begin with just your morning or post-work routine. Small steps create a domino effect of big impact.
2. Practice Appreciation
Since our mind carries all of our life experiences, we are susceptible to negative thoughts.
Turning your mind toward gratitude and appreciation combats that negativity. My recommendation is to start your day with intentional appreciation. How you set your mind right off the bat greatly impacts the day ahead.
I like to thank my feet, hands, eyes, and every aspect of my body that works and carries me through the day and evening. Give appreciation to every good thing in your life.
The more you practice this, the more creative and attuned your mind will become in finding things that can be appreciated. You can start to remind yourself of these things throughout your day. You will begin to quiet your mind simply by reorienting your thoughts.
3. Get Moving
One of the best ways to improve mental fitness is to practice physical fitness. The endorphins and good hormones you receive from moving your body are unmatched.
Even slow and patient movements can help you on your journey to self improvement. There are three postures or movements that I particularly love, especially in the morning, to energize your body and quiet your mind.
Practice These Three Postures

Mountain

Bow

Eagle
These poses are research-based and scientifically formulated to energize both the brain and the body into a calm, centered state of being.
I recommend working these into your daily routine. Practice these postures with micro-movements to find the body positions that are right for you. Find other movements that ignite you.
4. Visualize Your Desired Outcomes
You may be stressed right now. You may feel as if you’ve spiraled out of control. That isn’t your final state, however.
You have the power and freedom to create your experience.
See in your mind the end results of where you want to be and what you want. Start visualizing yourself there. Maybe you want a job that aligns with your peace and passions. Imagine yourself at work, happily getting the job done. Take a walk on your lunch break. Come home satisfied and with the ability to rest. Soak in the fulfillment you feel as you rest your head on your pillow at the end of the day.
The goal is to get into the sensations of having what you want, so you can take that energy into the day as it is now.

5. Be Consistent
Each of these practices may quiet your mind temporarily, but the real change comes with consistency.
These small shifts that you make consistently will have powerful, long-lasting, life-changing results for you and everyone in your life.
Consistently be kind to yourself and the world around you.
Consistently move your body and get out into the sun.
Consistently visualize where you want to be.
Once consistency is in the mix, you will feel your mind quiet before you know it.
If you feel yourself spiraling, understand that it’s surmountable. You are capable of big change, self improvement, and peak mental fitness.
Take that first step. Create that structure. Get to work!
